In a country where quality healthcare remains elusive for nearly a billion people, OurSwasth is embarking on a mission to revolutionize primary healthcare delivery in rural India. Our innovative mobile app is designed to empower the 1+ million primary healthcare workers, bringing quality, affordable healthcare closer to those who need it most.

The Healthcare Challenge in India #

The statistics paint a stark picture of the healthcare situation in India:

  • India contributes to more than 23% of the world’s diseases despite having only 17% of the global population.
  • The doctor-to-patient ratio stands at a mere 1:2000, far below the globally recommended level of 1:1000.
  • Only 20% of healthcare resources are located in rural India, which accounts for over 75% of the population.
  • High private healthcare expenditure pushes nearly 10 million families to the brink of financial bankruptcy each year.

OurSwasth: A Mobile Solution for Primary Healthcare #

Our Android app, developed in vernacular languages, is designed to address these challenges head-on. Here’s how it works:

  1. Digital Patient Records: The app allows healthcare workers to collect and integrate patients’ past medical history, creating a digital health record for each individual.

  2. Health Education: Through vernacular videos, healthcare workers can educate patients on various health issues, standardizing and improving the quality of health communication.

  3. Community Health Tracking: The app enables workers to keep track of health developments in their community, allowing for better preventive care and early intervention.

  4. AI-Powered Diagnostics: With each patient interaction, our app gets smarter at diagnosing ailments, potentially reducing the cost and time of healthcare delivery.

Early Traction and Future Plans #

We launched our app in September 2016, and the initial results are encouraging:

  • Starting with just 2 users on day one, we’ve grown to 13 active users within two weeks.
  • We’re seeing increasing daily adoption and engagement, with new feature requests coming in regularly.
  • Word-of-mouth referrals are driving organic growth, adding 1-2 new healthcare workers daily.

We’re currently in discussions with the State Government to understand how we can launch this initiative statewide, which could provide a fast track to scaling our impact.

The Road Ahead #

As we continue to refine and expand our platform, we’re focused on several key areas:

  1. Expanding Language Support: With over 100 spoken languages in India, we’re working to make our app accessible in multiple regional languages.

  2. Enhancing AI Capabilities: We’re continuously improving our diagnostic algorithms to provide more accurate and timely health insights.

  3. Building Partnerships: We’re exploring partnerships with hospitals and healthcare systems to create a more inclusive healthcare ecosystem.

  4. Government Collaboration: We’re working closely with government bodies to align our solution with national health initiatives and policies.
